Off the Highlands Highway about 20km north of Bothwell is a gate through to The Hunterston Track that leads west to Sonning Hill. At the base the Shannon River and the track meet and there is a ford. The area is mostly farmland, but the grasses are not a monoculture. There is also good woodland on the hill and thin strip along the river. The attractiveness of the site is marred by a quarry.
No camping is advised here on private land
